Papua New Guinea
..anyone been? I had a job offer there when I was a young un and alto I didnt go ive always harboured an idea to visit.

Watched the Ross Kemp programme on it recently ( the one where he gets threatened with a gun in his face ) and then saw this in the news

ttps://www.theguardian.com/world/2019/jul/15/papua-new-guinea-massacre-of-30-women-and-children-is-worst-payback-killing-in-countrys-history

If there really is a more soulless, hideous, scary godforsaken place in the world.i'd be very surprised,

Re: Papua New Guinea
There are different kinds of cannibalism.

If you eat your parents because you think you will obtain their desirable qualities, you are actually honouring them.

Although you're much more likely to get Kuru.

Yes, I think if you're going to be encountering cannibals, it's nice if they're the humble and gentle kind. :-)

Re: Papua New Guinea
Spent a month there for work in 2015.

Port Moresby is a hellhole. Much of rest of country is beautiful, but lack of infrastructure/roads.

Huge poverty, corrupt government.

English widely spoken to a good standard. The people who live there are among the most humble and gentle you will meet.

One of the best trips of my life.

Despite being close to Australia, hardly anyone goes there except for work. When I worked for BHP, a female colleague transferred there to do IT support for a copper mine. She was given a briefing of what to expect - big spiders, taipans etc - and anecdotes intended to warn her of the risks of befriending the locals.

A shame because it could be a good place for a rainforest adventure holiday.

Certainly not a suncream and copy of Andy McNab novel territory.

Medical cannibalism was still around in Europe in 1910, when a German pharmaceutical company was still selling powdered Egyptian mummy.

According to my Oz relatives, rural parts of PNG are so dangerous that if you are driving in these areas you don't have to stop if you run someone over! You just have to report it at some point in the future.

Mind you they like Rugby League so not all bad..

Re: Papua New Guinea
Our Celtic ancestors included cannibals.

It used to be thought that it was just Julius Caesar's libel, but several archaeological finds have confirmed his reports.

Not enough data to work out how widespread cannibalism was, but it definitely existed.

Sounds an horrendous place if you ask me and wouldnt be on my to do list...although im sure Gavros will pop on soon to say how he has been there and done it etc!
